Welcome to the website of the American Automatic Control Council, shortly known as AACC. This is an association of the control systems divisions of eight member societies, namely AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers), ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ISA (International Society of Automation), SCS (Society for Computer Simulation), and SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics). The AACC was founded in 1957, with four of the current member societies constituting its first board: AIChE, ASME, IEEE, and ISA, with IEEE (the name did not exist at the time) actually represented by AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) and IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers), making the total number of board members five (AIEE and IRE later merged and created the IEEE in 1963). AACC is governed by its Board of Directors, comprised of representatives from each of the eight member societies listed above, and conducts its business according to its constitution and bylaws which can be found on this website, accessed through the About AACC link. Executive Officers of AACC are its president, past president, president-elect, treasurer, and secretary. The current roster of the Board of Directors of AACC and its Executive Officers can be found on this website, again accessible through the About AACC link. The Board of Directors meets twice a year, with one meeting being during the summer months (at the site of the annual American Control Conference) and the second one during the winter months (generally in December).
While AACC plays an important role in the evolution and nurturing of the field of automatic control in the United States, it also is a major contributor to activities in systems and control worldwide
